My New Ways

I’m somewhat of a solo traveller. I have no wife or kids (or husband), and I’ve been quietly following a plant-based diet for nearly a decade (as of 2025). Around the same time, I quit drinking because I realised it wasn’t doing me any favours. Sure, a few drinks might seem harmless, but for me, alcohol made things worse.

Australia is a remarkable country that I’m grateful to live in, but it is also full of alcoholics, many of whom believe they aren’t, and they also like to separate themselves from the druggies. But truth be told, alcohol kills more than any other drug besides tobacco.

These days, I weigh the risks and rewards of everything, including mind-altering substances. Alcohol and sugar are off my list because they don’t expand my consciousness. Instead, they dull it, age my skin, harm my organs, and come with serious long-term risks. To me, alcohol acts as a preservative for negative states, sucking the life out of those who overindulge.

Not only that, but I wanted to prove that it’s possible to have both English and Maori blood without the need to rely on alcohol. My Maori dad went straight from the teet to the bottle and has probably drunk more alcoholic drinks than non-alcoholic drinks since I can remember. But in his mind, he only has a few drinks now and then. As much as I love him and appreciate his hard-working ways, I had to hone in on this Indigenous disaster bit in my genes and get it out of my system asap! While some people can drink responsibly, they’re few and far between in my experience.

I tried to stay completely straight for so long, but unfortunately I live in a culture that loves its drinking, and listening to everyone ramble on with crap- friends, family, and strangers sent me nuts and pushed me into the alternative world. That’s why I turned to more creative alternatives for mood changes and little escapes, like Kratom and Shrooms. These choices have minimal side effects when taken responsibly—no hangovers, comedowns, or bodily harm. With so many plant and fungi species out there, it only makes sense to find less destructive options.

Whenever I’m out and about or socialising, I stick to two simple rules: choose natural, cleaner options or avoid substances altogether. This approach cuts out about 90% of the problems since there are no harmful chemicals, synthetics, or cartel carnage involved. By micro and macrodosing the right way, I stay balanced and live a better life.

My Fuel

Let’s talk about my food choices because what I put into my body is crucial for how I function in life. Since my soul-searching days, I’ve cut back on junk food and eliminated animal products, which has had a tremendously positive impact. My cholesterol is good, I think more clearly, and I feel lighter and more energetic from eating more greens, beans, and lentils.

However, this lifestyle choice still came at a price that had little to do with making sacrifices to the taste-buds and more to do with pressures from within my world of people. I said to myself at the beginning, “I won’t venture off and surround myself with the greenies only, because I still have work to do within the mainstream realm. I’ll be in the world but just not completely of it.”

But, little did I know at the time that everyone would persistently try and sway me from my discipline, either directly or indirectly trying to fill my head and plate with stuff I said goodbye to earlier. This, too, sent me a little nuts, which I mainly internalised because I had a few other things going on in my mind. On a strong hunch, my food choices also relate to enhancing psychic capabilities to help me navigate the external world.

‘Stuff’ in General

The next aspect I feel the need to touch on is that I’m not overly fussed about any expensive toys, packaging or labels, etc., in mainstream products and consumables. As the life force picked me up from my nutritional boost, I realised that I don’t need all the hyped-up labels and buzzwords tied into clothes and other things, especially when they leave such a heavier footprint than needed or exploit too many people around the world. I really wanted to downsize as having too much stuff means that I’m not right in the head. It’s a similar take to the illicit drug trade in terms of overindulging, exploitation and unethical practices.

Quality to me also includes the greater sustainability of materials sourced, which is why I give value to those less-mentioned alternative brands that have put the effort into creating more wholesome products for their community. Well done for the cleaner supply chain, folks 👏🏼.

Fitness With Fun

Staying fit is important, and I make it enjoyable through Les Mills group fitness classes like Body Pump and Body Jam, along with some gym time and yoga. These activities are incredibly rewarding. Yoga helps me stretch and release tension while balancing my energies. Dancing in Body Jam lifts my spirits and brings me great joy, reminding me of my childhood ballroom and Latin dancing days. Body Jam mixes different cultural dance styles like old-school house, hip-hop, latin, and even street jazz across different routines. I love it because it’s fun, engaging, and great for brain health.

Similarly, Body Pump classes at my local gym, led by an awesome crew of instructors, are perfect. Synchronising music with movements and weights in a room full of people is the ideal workout for me.

Overall, my everyday choices and lighter steps guide me toward a clear and fulfilling path in life.

And that’s it!

Thanks for taking the time to read through my little booze rant as I had to get it off my chest. I hope my experiences offer you some help, even if just in small ways. If you’re ready to take Mindlessness to the next level, Ultimate Lessing is for you!
